Mariinsky Theatre – September Season Highlights

The Mariinsky Theatre has unveiled its September program, and we are in for a true treat. The lineup could not be more spectacular. Verdi and Puccini will take center stage in several evenings of opera, with their celebrated works sure to delight all lovers of the lyrical arts.

Yet for many of us, the real anticipation is for the ballet. The season opens on September 10 with a dazzling performance of La Bayadère, starring the international superstar Viktoria Tereshkina as Nikiya, alongside the brilliant Kimin Kim as Solor. The role of Gamzatti, one of my personal favorites, will be danced by second soloist Daria Kulikova—a magical evening awaits.

On September 11, another beloved star, Renata Shakirova, will take on the role of Nikiya, partnering with Philipp Stepin as Solor and Maria Chernyvskaya as Gamzatti. A night full of passion and beauty is guaranteed.

September 12 brings the chance to discover Maria Iliushkina’s Nikiya, with Even Capitaine as Solor and Alexandra Khiteeva as Gamzatti.

September 13 is a day to be in Russia—two La Bayadère casts in one day! The first performance features Maria Khoreva, Yevgeny Konovalov, and Maria Bulanova, while the evening will showcase Oxana Skorik, Timur Askerov, and Ekaterina Kondaurova—a trio of pure brilliance. That same day, opera lovers can enjoy Verdi’s Aida.

Moving into Swan Lake:

• September 17: Viktoria Tereshkina dances the iconic Odette/Odile, with Roman Belyakov as Prince Siegfried—an unmissable opportunity to see one of the world’s greatest ballerinas in this legendary role.

• September 18: Oxana Skorik offers her lyrical Odette and fiery Odile, partnered by Nikita Korneyev.

• September 19: Maria Iliushkina and Even Capitaine take the stage.

• September 20: Nadezhda Batoeva dances Odette, with Timur Askerov as her partner.

On September 21, there’s a Romeo and Juliet double bill: May Nagahisa with Philipp Stepin in the matinee, and Renata Shakirova with Kimin Kim in the evening—a dream pairing for any ballet fan.

September 23 offers a stunning Michel Fokine program—Chopiniana, Le Spectre de la rose, The Swan, and Schéhérazade—with a star-studded cast including Tereshkina, Askerov, Belyakov, Shirinkina, Osmolkina, Konovalov, Mazzi, Kuznetsova, and Borodulina.

On September 25, Renata Shakirova and Kimin Kim will shine in Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin—a rare and magical opportunity to see this ballet live.

September 27 brings a double performance of The Fountain of Bakhchisarai: the afternoon with Maria Khoreva, Nikita Korneyev, Danila Korsuntsev, and Maria Bulanova; the evening with Maria Shirinkina, Pavel Mikheyev, Soslan Kulaev, and Kristina Shapran—a feast for the most demanding ballet lovers.

On September 28, a truly memorable date, Giselle takes the stage. In the evening, Maria Iliushkina will dance the title role, partnered by Even Capitaine—an unmissable event for admirers of her artistry.

Finally, September 30 closes the month with The Bronze Horseman, featuring Philipp Stepin and the radiant Renata Shakirova.

Le Théâtre Mariinsky a dévoilé son programme pour septembre, et nous avons de quoi nous réjouir. L’affiche ne pourrait être plus somptueuse. Verdi et Puccini seront à l’honneur lors de plusieurs soirées lyriques, avec leurs chefs-d’œuvre incontournables qui raviront les amateurs d’opéra.

Mais pour beaucoup d’entre nous, l’attente se concentre sur la danse. La saison s’ouvrira le 10 septembre avec une production éblouissante de La Bayadère, mettant en vedette la superstar internationale Viktoria Tereshkina dans le rôle de Nikiya, aux côtés du brillant Kimin Kim dans celui de Solor. Le rôle de Gamzatti, l’un de mes préférés, sera interprété par la soliste Daria Kulikova. Une soirée magique en perspective.

Le 11 septembre, une autre étoile adorée, Renata Shakirova, incarnera Nikiya, avec Philipp Stepin dans le rôle de Solor et Maria Chernyvskaya en Gamzatti.

Le 12 septembre donnera l’occasion de découvrir la Nikiya de Maria Iliushkina, accompagnée de Even Capitaine (Solor) et Alexandra Khiteeva (Gamzatti).

Paris - Thème et Variations Opéra Bastille du 06 octobre au 10 novembre 2025

Je suis comblé de bonheur : en octobre et novembre 2025, nous aurons à nouveau à Paris l’un de mes ballets préférés — Thème et Variations — chorégraphié par George Balanchine sur la somptueuse musique de Tchaïkovski, interprétée par la fabuleuse Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, sous la direction du grand Vello Pähn. Ce seront, sans aucun doute, des représentations inoubliables.

Quant à la distribution, quelle qu’elle soit, le succès est garanti : ce ballet est une œuvre d’art absolue — une chorégraphie magistrale, une partition sublime et une direction musicale exceptionnelle. Que demander de plus ?

Pour inaugurer cette série, lors de la soirée d’ouverture le 6 octobre, c’est Valentine Colasante, Étoile que je suis avec admiration depuis sa merveilleuse Princesse Florine en 2013, qui incarnera le rôle principal. Elle sera accompagnée par Paul Marque, Étoile également, avec qui elle partage une belle complicité artistique.Si je ne me trompe pas, ils ont déjà dansé ce ballet auparavant, mais avec d'autres couples, maintenant ils le feront ensemble cette fois. C’est bien Valentine Colasante et Paul Marque qui formeront le couple principal : un moment à ne pas manquer.

Le 9  octobre, ce sera au tour de la jeune et brillante paire formée par Bleuenn Battistoni et Thomas Docquir, qui ont déjà triomphé  dans La Belle au bois dormant et Sylvia. Puis, le 23 octobre, Inès McIntosh et Francesco Mura nous éblouiront de leur virtuosité et de leur complicité sur scène, eux qui dansent souvent ensemble et forment un duo parfaitement harmonieux.

Le 28 octobre, la merveilleuse Roxane Stojanov dansera aux côtés de Lorenzo Lelli, qui a lui aussi connu un grand succès lors de la dernière série de La Belle au bois dormant.

Le 29 octobre, le choix sera difficile : à l’Opéra Bastille, nous retrouverons Inès McIntosh et Francesco Mura dans Thème et Variations, tandis qu’au Palais Garnier, on pourra applaudir Héloïse Bourdon et Jérémy-Loup Quer dans Giselle. Si vous êtes à Paris ce soir-là, il faudra choisir... Pour ma part, je serai au Palais Garnier, mais je retournerai voir Inès et Francesco un autre soir !

Mon conseil : prenez des places pour les deux opéras, Bastille et Garnier, afin de ne rien manquer de ces distributions exceptionnelles. Tous les casts sont fabuleux, vraiment tous.

Et ce n’est pas tout ! En plus du chef-d’œuvre balanchinien, ce programme de soirée comprendra deux ballets faisant leur entrée au répertoire :

• Corybantic Games, chorégraphie de Christopher Wheeldon sur une musique de Leonard Bernstein.

• Rhapsodies, chorégraphie de Mthuthuzeli November sur la musique de George Gershwin.

Les deux œuvres seront dirigées également par Vello Pähn, avec la participation des Étoiles, Premières Danseuses, Premiers Danseurs et du Corps de Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris.

Octobre et novembre s’annoncent donc magiques : Giselle au Palais Garnier, et ce triple programme enthousiasmant à Bastille. Il ne faut pas oublier non plus que la compagnie compte de magnifiques Premières Danseuses, Sujets, Coryphées et Quadrilles, qui contribuent à la beauté et à l’excellence de cette maison.

Je compte déjà les jours pour que l’été passe vite... et qu’arrive enfin octobre !

I am overjoyed: in October and November 2025, we will once again be hosting in Paris one of my favorite ballets—Theme and Variations—choreographed by George Balanchine to Tchaikovsky's sumptuous music, performed by the fabulous Orchestra of the Paris Opera, under the direction of the great Vello Pähn. These will undoubtedly be unforgettable performances.

As for the cast, whatever the cast, success is guaranteed: this ballet is an absolute work of art—masterful choreography, a sublime score, and exceptional musical direction. What more could you ask for?

To inaugurate this series, on opening night on October 6, Valentine Colasante, a star whom I have admired since her wonderful performance as Princess Florine in 2013, will play the lead role. She will be accompanied by Paul Marque, also a star, with whom she shares a wonderful artistic bond. Both have danced this ballet before, but never together, to my knowledge. In 2015, they were in the cast, but in secondary roles; I remember that the principal ballerina was Laura Hecquet. This time, it is indeed Valentine Colasante and Paul Marque who will form the lead couple: a moment not to be missed.

On October 9 and 12, it will be the turn of the young and brilliant pair Bleuenn Battistoni and Thomas Docquir, who have already triumphed together in The Sleeping Beauty and Sylvia. Then, on October 23, Inès McIntosh and Francesco Mura will dazzle us with their virtuosity and complicity on stage, often dancing together and forming a perfectly harmonious duo.

On October 28, the marvelous Roxane Stojanov will dance alongside Lorenzo Lelli, who also enjoyed great success in the last series of The Sleeping Beauty.

Это, несомненно, будут незабываемые представления.

Что касается состава исполнителей, то, независимо от состава, успех гарантирован: этот балет — настоящее произведение искусства: виртуозная хореография, великолепная партитура и исключительное музыкальное руководство. Чего ещё желать?

Откроет этот цикл спектаклей 6 октября Валентина Колазанте, звезда, которой я восхищаюсь с момента её великолепного исполнения партии принцессы Флорины в 2013 году. The ballet company of the Paris Opera House will offer us the divine version that I personally love so much, and that is so successful every time it returns to the stage. La stella della serata inaugurale, la grande première dell'attesissimo balletto, sarà Léonore Baulac al fianco di Marc Moreau, ballerini esperti che ci offriranno uno spettacolo di alta qualità, elegante e indimenticabile. Sono unici. Daranno il via a questa serie che promette di essere storica. Quindi, il 25 settembre, segnatevi sul calendario l'inizio di Giselle a Parigi! La coppia di star della serata si ripeterà un paio di giorni dopo, e poi vedremo Sae Eun Park al fianco di Germain Louvet. Che dire delle due figure più internazionali della compagnia, una data che sicuramente farà esaurire i biglietti non appena saranno in vendita. Li amo entrambi così tanto!!! Il 15 ottobre, la grande ballerina, una delle mie preferite al mondo, Hannah O'Neill, danzerà di nuovo Giselle, ma questa volta accanto alla stella internazionale del Royal Ballet, Reece Clarke, che ieri ha danzato Aminta al Metropolitan Opera House di New York, con grande successo. Parigi la attende a braccia aperte questo ottobre, e spero di essere lì per ammirare di persona un cast così straordinario, sarebbe come se stessimo parlando di un hotel a 7 stelle, o qualcosa del genere, perché vedere una Giselle così è semplicemente straordinario. Ho visto Reece Clarke ballare così tante volte a Londra in ruoli diversi, ma mai in Albrecht, quindi la mia emozione è garantita, e aumenta sapendo che vedrò Hannah O'Neill al suo fianco: cosa si può chiedere di più nella vita di un cast così? Il 16, Dorothée e Hugo reciteranno, e il 17, di nuovo Hannah e Reece. Il 18 ottobre sarà una notte magica. La mia ballerina preferita, Amandine Albisson, sarà Giselle, favolosa, come tutti i ruoli che interpreta, accanto alla stella dell'opera Guillaume Diop, lo straordinario ballerino che ci lascia senza parole con la sua tecnica e interpretazione magiche. Un altro cast da sogno. Davvero, tutti i cast sono da sogno, tutti quanti! La mia coppia preferita, Héloïse Bourdon e Jérémy-Loup Quer.ci incanteranno, ci stupiranno con le loro performance che saranno, posso già dirlo, memorabili, meravigliose e indimenticabili. The most awaited with excitement ballet of the season, Sylvia, finally arrives in Paris. This wonderful show, simply sensational from start to finish, will premiere on May 8, 2025. If there's an important date in the Parisian cultural world, it's this one. Sylvia, a ballet that was a huge success at its premiere in Paris as well, was gradually forgotten, inexplicably, since the music is simply sensational, a masterpiece that Tchaikovsky himself considered superior to Swan Lake. This brilliant show is choreographed by the sensational artist, Manuel Legris. I discovered him years ago as a dancer, and like everyone else, he left us speechless. Donc curieusement, c'est elle qui est chargée de donner vie à Sylvia dans cette nouvelle étape du ballet au répertoire de l'opéra de Paris, tout comme c'est Darcey Bussell qui a donné vie à Sylvia à Londres avec un grand succès. J'ai beaucoup aimé Amandine Albisson dans tout ce qu'elle a dansé, mais j'ai surtout aimé son Odette/Odile il y a quelques années, sa fragilité en Odette, et la tristesse du personnage avec une délicatesse impressionnante en même temps ses mouvements majestueux faisaient d'elle une Odette extraordinaire, et aussi, son Odile est insurpassable, divine, merveilleuse, Amandine montre son côté le plus audacieux et le plus séduisant, se déplaçant avec confiance et puissance. Sa précision technique et sa maîtrise impressionnante des pas de Noureev, dont ses 33 fouettés, font d'elle l'Odile idéale. Sans parler de sa présence magnétique sur scène non seulement dans Le Lac des Cygnes, mais dans tous les ballets dans lesquels elle apparaît. Comme je l’ai dit, j’oserais dire que Londres a Darcey Bussell et Paris a Amandine Albisson. Un coup de chance pour les amateurs de bon ballet classique au plus haut niveau. La distribution du jour de l'ouverture est sensationnelle, je ne pourrais pas continuer à commenter chacun d'entre eux, je les ai vus danser tellement de fois et ils m'ont émerveillé tellement de fois, vraiment, nous assistons à une première de super stars, historique, et qui sera inoubliable pour les chanceux qui pourront assister à cette soirée historique, tout est déjà complet, mais peut-être qu'un chanceux trouvera un billet de dernière minute, ne perdons pas espoir, en tout cas, le tournage est prévu pour que le reste de la planète puisse profiter de cette œuvre d'art, car pour moi ce ne sera pas juste un autre spectacle de ballet, ce sera un événement du plus haut niveau artistique, réunissant deux génies, Léo Delibes et Manuel Legris, et le talent des danseurs de l'opéra, avec l'orchestre de l'opéra du Palais Garnier, sont des moments qui resteront écrits dans la mémoire de l'histoire artistique parisienne.

Amandine ha una tecnica impeccabile, l'ho vista per la prima volta credo fosse il 2011, non ricordo, ma da quando è stata nominata prima ballerina l'ho vista in molti ruoli e ne sono sempre stato affascinato, è come Darcey Bussell, quindi curiosamente è lei ad essere incaricata di dare vita a Sylvia in questa nuova fase del balletto nel repertorio dell'Opéra di Parigi, così come è stata Darcey Bussell a dare vita a Sylvia a Londra con grande successo. Mi è piaciuta molto Amandine Albisson in tutto ciò che ha ballato, ma soprattutto mi è piaciuta la sua Odette/Odile di qualche anno fa, la sua fragilità come Odette e la tristezza del personaggio con una delicatezza impressionante, allo stesso tempo i suoi movimenti maestosi la rendevano un'Odette straordinaria, e inoltre, la sua Odile è insuperabile, divina, meravigliosa, Amandine mostra il suo lato più audace e seducente, muovendosi con sicurezza e potenza. La sua precisione tecnica e la sua impressionante padronanza dei passi di Noureev, compresi i suoi 33 fouettés, la rendono l'Odile ideale dell'opéra. Per non parlare della sua presenza scenica magnetica non solo nel Lago dei cigni, ma in tutti i balletti in cui appare. Come ho detto, oserei dire che Londra ha Darcey Bussell e Parigi ha Amandine Albisson. Una vera fortuna per gli amanti del buon balletto classico ai massimi livelli. Il cast del giorno dell'inaugurazione è sensazionale, non potrei continuare a commentare ognuno di loro, li ho visti ballare così tante volte e mi hanno stupito così tante volte, davvero, stiamo assistendo a una prima cinematografica, storica, e che sarà indimenticabile per i fortunati che potranno assistere a questa serata storica, è già tutto esaurito, ma forse qualche fortunato riuscirà a trovare un biglietto all'ultimo minuto, non perdiamo la speranza, in ogni caso, le riprese sono previste affinché il resto del pianeta possa godere di quest'opera d'arte, perché per me non sarà solo l'ennesimo spettacolo di balletto, sarà un evento di altissimo livello artistico, che riunirà due geni, Léo Delibes e Manuel Legris, e il talento dei ballerini dell'opera, con l'orchestra dell'opera del Palais Garnier, sono momenti che rimarranno scritti nella memoria della storia artistica parigina.
